I Chronicles 20:8Sefaria

אֵ֛ל נוּלְּד֥וּ לְהָרָפָ֖א בְּגַ֑ת וַיִּפְּל֥וּ בְיַד־דָּוִ֖יד וּבְיַד־עֲבָדָֽיו׃ {פ}

The defeat of the giant brothers from the Philistine territories brings an end to a long series of border conflicts fought by the Kingdom of Israel. The downfall of these massive men from Gath actually began years earlier when David struck down Goliath, the first of the giants to fall to Israel. Following that initial victory, the remaining brothers were eventually killed by David's loyal servants [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

These military campaigns offer a clear picture of the political and military reality during the later years of David's reign. The fighting was primarily concentrated along the borders, forcing David to constantly defend the outer edges of his territory against recurring threats. While the Philistine territory was never completely conquered, leaving them in control of the coastal strip, David successfully secured his status as the most powerful ruler west of the Euphrates River. Even the neighboring nations that were not under his direct control still submitted to his overall authority. This regional dominance was the stable political landscape he ultimately passed down to the kings who succeeded him [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
