Human beings cannot hide their actions from God. Every deed, whether committed openly or in secret, stands completely exposed before Him. God observes with exact detail, remembering each act and responding accordingly.

God places our deliberate offenses directly in front of Him. The primary approach among commentators is that this placement means God constantly sees and remembers these intentional sins, eventually bringing about their consequence and punishment. On a deeper level, these offenses transform into actual forces of impurity. They act as a barrier standing before the Divine Presence, ultimately preventing the soul from connecting to God at the moment a person leaves this world [אלשיך].

Beyond deliberate acts, there are also offenses that are less obvious. Commentators differ on the exact nature of these actions. One perspective suggests they refer to the sins of our youth [רש״י, מאירי, ר' משה באבן עזרא]. Another approach understands them as hidden matters, such as sins committed in absolute secrecy or unintentional mistakes that we are completely unaware of [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, מצודת ציון, שטיינזלץ]. Even though these acts escape human notice, God remembers them and holds a person accountable [מצודת דוד, מאירי]. Some suggest that both ideas are true, encompassing both the mistakes of youth and hidden errors [מלבי״ם].

Ultimately, God illuminates everything. Nothing remains concealed from Him, and all of our deepest secrets are laid bare in His light [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, שטיינזלץ]. Because of this intense illumination, wrongs committed in secret eventually receive their punishment in the open [מאירי]. Furthermore, even unintentional and hidden mistakes, while less severe than deliberate acts of rebellion, still carry weight. They are significant enough to stand in the way, blocking the light of God's face from shining upon us [אלשיך].
