מלכים א, פרק כ״א, פסוק כ״ד

A harsh and merciless judgment hangs over the royal dynasty of Ahab. The decree strips his family of the basic dignity of a burial, leaving their remains exposed as food for wild animals. The curse dictates a grim fate based on where the death occurs. Those who die within the city limits are destined to be eaten by dogs, while those who pass away in the open fields will be left for the birds of the sky.

This severe warning did not remain an empty threat. The curse eventually came to pass in its entirety later in history, unfolding exactly as spoken during the reign of Jehu [מלבי״ם].
