Psalms 4:4Sefaria

Facing persecution and threats, a firm declaration of faith emerges, serving as a stark warning to enemies. It reveals the unbreakable bond between God and the person devoted to Him, guaranteeing divine protection and personal providence during times of crisis. The primary approach among commentators is that God separates and sets apart this devoted individual Yet, this is not a simple separation; it is accomplished through miraculous, special providence [מלבי״ם]. God singles out this devoted person to be His own portion and to serve Him

This special status is not given without reason. A truly devoted person acts beyond strict justice, returning good even to those who do them harm, much like King David did when dealing with Saul [רד״ק]. Because of these noble traits, God granted David special favor, setting him apart from the rest of the nation to be king. Consequently, his enemies have no power to steal his kingship or ruin his destiny The enemies are therefore called upon to reflect deeply, pay attention, and recognize this reality

The ultimate proof of this unique closeness is the certainty that God listens when the devoted person calls out in prayer [אבן עזרא]. David holds absolute confidence that God will rescue him from danger, protect his life from those who seek it, and preserve his royal destiny [רד״ק, מאירי]. Looking deeper, the crisis itself is not a punishment. Instead, God uses the distress as a way to deepen the devoted person's connection to Him. The fact that God hears the prayer from within the depths of the struggle is the greatest evidence of their immense and unshakable bond [אלשיך].
