The transfer of leadership from Moses to Joshua brought a shift in how the Israelites experienced the divine, yet their core mission remained entirely unchanged. The divine instructions were preserved perfectly through the chain of transmission. God gave the commands to Moses, and Moses passed every single detail on to Joshua without leaving anything out [מלבי״ם].
Even though a conquest led by Moses would have been accompanied by greater, more obvious miracles than the conquest under Joshua, there was absolutely no change in the practical commands regarding the laws of war and the division of the territories.
Joshua showed incredible dedication and a deep understanding of his task by carrying out the mission flawlessly. His strict commitment went far beyond simply following direct orders. The sages explain that even in situations where Moses had not given him explicit directions, Joshua intuitively understood what needed to be done. He naturally aligned his own decisions to match exactly what God had originally commanded Moses.
