As the land was divided, specific areas were reassigned to accommodate different families. From the territory belonging to the tribe of Dan, two distinct cities were separated from the rest of the inheritance. The cities of Eltekeh and Gibbethon, along with the open lands surrounding them, were taken from Dan's portion and given directly to the descendants of Kohath.
