The leaders of the Israelites find themselves completely helpless when facing the crisis of the tribe of Benjamin. A deep sense of compassion fills them for the two hundred men who still remain without wives, yet their hands are firmly tied. They have reached a complete dead end, unsure of what else can possibly be done to help these survivors. The Israelites are entirely blocked from offering their own daughters in marriage to them. Every single member of the nation is bound by a severe oath they previously made, which brings a heavy curse upon anyone who provides a wife to a man from the tribe of Benjamin [מצודת דוד].
