The progression of bringing an offering involves a deeply physical and spiritual sequence. The individual bringing the animal leans their hands upon its head, after which it is slaughtered before the Tabernacle. Finally, the blood is thrown against the altar.

While outlining these duties at the altar, the instructions specifically assign the task of throwing the blood to the sons of Aaron, notably leaving Aaron himself out of the picture. This absence is not a random oversight but carries a profound historical weight, serving as a direct counterbalance to his role in the tragic events of the Golden Calf. During the account of that sin, Aaron's name is mentioned exactly nine times. To balance those nine mentions, his name is deliberately excluded from the first nine services of the sacrificial offerings, with the duties being assigned exclusively to his sons [ריב״א].
