Despite descending from Rachel's maidservant, Dan was elevated to a position of authority, chosen to head his own banner and lead the surrounding tribes.

The internal arrangement of the tribes under Dan's command reveals a thoughtful distribution of honor among the sons of the maidservants. Asher, the son of Leah's maidservant, was granted a special status within this group. Even though he was born after Naphtali, Asher was placed ahead of him in the camp's formation.
