In moments of deep distress, turning to God requires a profound recognition of human weakness. True rescue begins when a person realizes that relying on flesh and blood is entirely useless, making absolute trust in Divine providence the only path forward. The individual actively invites God to grant and prepare His salvation [אבן עזרא, ביאור שטיינזלץ, מלבי״ם], asking for continuous Divine support against an enemy [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The hope is that just as God provided help in the past, He will continue to protect against any future troubles [רד״ק]. This level of trust requires repentance and an unwavering reliance on His salvation alone [מאירי].

While the threat is often understood as a physical enemy, a deeper spiritual perspective views this adversary as the evil inclination. From this viewpoint, the prayer asks God for spiritual support so powerful that even the evil inclination is transformed and harnessed to serve God, much like the spiritual level achieved by Abraham. By reaching this inner harmony, a person can achieve perfection and stand successfully in judgment based on their own actions, rather than leaning on the merits or help of others [אלשיך].

Ultimately, any rescue that comes from human beings is empty and holds no real value [מצודת דוד, מאירי]. True victory must come directly from God Himself, as the power of human armies and mortal efforts is completely meaningless [אבן עזרא, אלשיך].
