Recognizing God's kingship naturally stems from observing the profound stability of the world He created. Yet, while creation is bound by time and space, there is a clear boundary between the physical universe and the eternal, timeless nature of its Creator.

At the heart of this stability is a firm, unwavering foundation, often pictured simply as a royal throne [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. However, the primary approach among commentators views this seat of power not as a physical object, but as a symbol of the heavens or the celestial spheres, which were formed in absolute perfection [אלשיך, מאירי]. Conceptually, this represents the fixed, unchanging laws of nature that govern the universe [מלבי״ם, מלבי״ם באור המילות]. There is also a perspective that links the stability of the earth directly to this celestial structure, picturing the earth as the center point surrounded by a heavenly throne of glory that constantly supplies it with power and strength [אבן עזרא].

This system of natural law and stability was set in place at a specific moment in time. Most commentators agree that this foundation was established during the six days of creation, when the rules of nature were determined and the earth was anchored so it would never collapse [מצודת דוד, מאירי, מלבי״ם, מלבי״ם באור המילות]. But while the universe and its laws have a distinct starting point, God Himself does not. He is completely eternal, existing long before the dawn of creation and remaining entirely beyond the limits of time [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד, מאירי, אלשיך].

This contrast between a created system and an eternal Creator reveals a deeper layer of how God interacts with the world. While the fixed laws of nature manage the everyday functioning of the universe, God remains eternally present to guide creation through direct, miraculous intervention that transcends those natural boundaries [מלבי״ם]. Furthermore, His endless involvement ensures that His mercy constantly works alongside strict justice. This continuous partnership of mercy and justice is what keeps the world from collapsing, proving that God is never distant or detached from His creation [אלשיך].
