תהלים, פרק צ״ו, פסוק ב׳

Psalms 96:2Sefaria

Recognizing God's constant care transforms simple gratitude into a profound spiritual practice. The call to sing and bless is directed specifically at God's essential and honored name [אבן עזרא]. This act of blessing flows naturally from receiving His goodness and abundance. While other nations might acknowledge God merely as the original creator or first cause of reality, the Israelites bless Him with the deep understanding that He is the active provider, the daily leader, and the direct generator of their rescue [מלבי״ם]. Furthermore, this song goes beyond mere thanksgiving; it serves as a spiritual tool that actively draws divine abundance and prophetic inspiration down into the world [אלשיך].

Beyond personal praise, there is a responsibility to share this reality with others. The act of proclaiming inherently involves delivering news—specifically, good, unexpected developments that do not simply happen on their own [מצודת ציון, מלבי״ם]. This sharing is meant to be a public experience [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. It takes shape as the people spread the joyful news of their rescue with one another [אבן עזרא], or as prophets publicly announce the promise of future redemption [מאירי].

This joyful announcement is meant to happen constantly, every single day [רד״ק, מאירי]. However, this presents a fascinating paradox: if news, by definition, must be new and unexpected, how can it be proclaimed on a daily basis? Commentators offer a few complementary perspectives to explain this. From an emotional standpoint, even when the story of salvation is already known to everyone, it is so deeply loved that each retelling feels like a fresh, exciting revelation [רד״ק]. On a more literal level, the salvation actually does renew daily [מצודת דוד]. The world does not operate on a blind, automatic nature. Instead, God actively recreates reality at every moment, meaning even the most routine aspects of life depend entirely on His absolute will and represent a brand-new rescue worthy of a fresh announcement [מלבי״ם]. Finally, this daily proclamation carries a prophetic element. Through divine inspiration, the people are able to announce today the actual salvations that will unfold tomorrow, as God's saving power is never static but constantly grows and intensifies from one day to the next [אלשיך].
