Following the presentation of the previous vision, a shift occurs as the prophetic experience moves from observation to explanation. God now begins to reveal the true meaning of the Menorah vision to the prophet [אבן עזרא]. This transition paves the way for a prophecy that clarifies Zerubbabel's specific role in constructing the Temple.
The prophetic message reveals an important truth about the Second Temple currently under construction. It is not meant to be the ultimate, permanent structure. In fact, it lacks five essential elements and is ultimately destined to be destroyed. Rather than being the final goal, this building acts merely as a foundation and a starting point for the ultimate Temple that will be built at the end of days. It serves as an intermediate bridge connecting the original First Temple built by Solomon with the future Temple described by Ezekiel. Its true and total completion will only be realized in the future [מלבי״ם].
