The record of the Israelites journeying to Egypt is more than a simple list of names; it holds deep meaning hidden within the identities of the people themselves. The family of Gad, for instance, experienced a unique blessing. Throughout the generations, not a single family line from his descendants was ever lost [צרור המור].

A closer look at the sons of Gad reveals that some of their names appear differently later in the biblical account. These shifts reflect profound spiritual transformations. A clear example is one of Gad's sons, who is known early on as Ezbon and later as Ozni. This dual identity stems from a specific event involving Aaron the High Priest. When Aaron delivered a prophetic warning, urging the people to cast away their idols, this particular son paid close attention. Because he truly listened to the rebuke, he earned the name Ozni, a name that reflects the act of hearing.

Immediately after this moment of realization, he fully repented and dedicated himself to fulfilling the will of God. To memorialize his sincere commitment to carrying out God's will, he was given the name Ezbon [צרור המור].
