A period of true peace and strong leadership naturally draws respect and prosperity. King Hezekiah was a highly energetic and successful ruler, and the greatness and deep tranquility of his era resulted in a steady stream of taxes and abundant gifts being brought to him. Consequently, a massive amount of property and riches began to accumulate once again in Jerusalem [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

To properly manage and contain this vast abundance, the king constructed dedicated storage facilities [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Rather than relying on a single, general warehouse, he took a highly organized approach to his newfound wealth. He built distinct types of treasuries and separate structures tailored specifically for different categories of property. This included specially designed spaces to hold highly valuable and precious items [רש״י, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Among the vast array of treasures carefully stored within these separate buildings were rare and expensive fragrant spices.
