The fall of Jerusalem was an event of absolute and total devastation. The city's end was marked by the burning of the Temple, the tearing down of its protective walls, and the complete loss of its palaces and treasures.

The invaders did not simply come to take the city's wealth for themselves. When they laid hands on the valuable and important vessels, their actions went beyond mere looting. They engaged in deliberate, calculated ruin. The enemy forces intentionally broke and spoiled these precious items with the explicit goal of destroying them completely [מצודת דוד].
