His time on the throne lasted a mere three months, which directly corresponded to the time it took for the Egyptian king, Pharaoh Necho, to return from a military campaign in Carchemish.
Pharaoh Necho’s campaign had ended in failure. As he traveled back through the land of Judah, his spirit was bitter and enraged by his defeat. Having recently killed the previous king, Josiah, the Egyptian ruler viewed himself as the absolute and supreme authority over Judah. Consequently, he refused to recognize the local decision to put Jehoahaz in power.
