מלכים ב, פרק כ״א, פסוק ג׳

Manasseh, the king of Judah, engaged in a steady and deliberate progression of wrongdoing, constantly finding new ways to add to his evil deeds [חומת אנך]. His actions closely mirrored those of Ahab, who was infamous for being the very first ruler in the kingdom of Israel to introduce the worship of the Asherah. Before Ahab's reign, even the most sinful kings of Israel limited their idolatry to following the ways of Jeroboam, focusing their worship exclusively on golden calves rather than making Asherahs [רד״ק, חומת אנך]. Manasseh adopted this severe practice and then pushed his idolatry even further. He expanded his worship to the sky itself, bowing down in devotion to the stars and the constellations [מצודת ציון].
