I Chronicles 11:24Sefaria

Benaiah son of Jehoiada stands out as a figure defined by his extraordinary acts of bravery. His reputation was built on specific, remarkable achievements that earned him a position of honor among the most elite warriors of his time [מצודת דוד]. The primary approach among commentators is that he achieved a level of fame where he was considered a great hero even by the highest ranking fighters, who deeply admired his strength.

There are different perspectives regarding exactly which group of elite warriors held him in such high regard. One view suggests his reputation was established among the heroes mentioned just prior in the historical account [מלבי״ם]. A more detailed perspective identifies these men specifically as the three famous warriors who drew water, who served as the leaders of the elite group of thirty. Despite their own immense bravery, these three respected Benaiah as an equal [מצודת דוד].

However, a clear hierarchy of bravery remained. While Benaiah was highly esteemed by these leaders, his status paled in comparison when measured against the original, most senior group of three heroes. The bravery of those first three was so unprecedented and vast that, next to them, even a warrior of Benaiah's caliber was not considered to be on the same level [מצודת דוד].
