The historical records of the ancestral families often trace how leadership and household names shifted over the generations. Within these records, the Izharite family is noted for having a man named Shelomoth standing at its head. Because of his position, the entire ancestral house was originally recognized and named after him.

Over time, family designations naturally evolve to reflect new leadership. The descendants of Shelomoth were eventually led by a man named Jahath. Consequently, the paternal house of the Izharites underwent a change in its title. The household that was previously called by the name of Shelomoth was updated and came to be formally known by the name of Jahath [מצודת דוד].
