I Kings 7:34Sefaria

The construction of the Temple's water stands involved a high level of engineering precision, requiring careful decisions about which components should be assembled from separate parts and which should be cast as a single solid unit. The architectural design included specific protrusions that functioned as vital supports [ביאור שטיינזלץ] located at the corners of the stands [מצודת ציון]. Although these four supports were already mentioned earlier in the structural description, they are brought up again to reveal a crucial technical detail about their manufacturing process [רש״י].

Rather than being crafted separately and attached later, these corner supports emerged directly from the body of the stand itself. They were poured and cast together with the main structure, forming one complete and unified piece [מצודת דוד, אברבנאל, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This seamless casting method was specifically chosen for the outer corners, standing in direct contrast to how supports were attached to the copper axles. The axle supports were assembled from separate pieces to create a functional mechanism that could be opened and closed, granting access to the interior of the stand. Because the outer corners did not require this kind of opening mechanism, their supports were cast as a single, unbroken unit with the rest of the machine, ensuring maximum strength and stability [מלבי״ם, אברבנאל].
