Joel 4:14Sefaria

The final moment of decision has arrived, drawing immense crowds of nations to the ultimate arena of judgment and divine retribution. The atmosphere is heavy with anticipation as the world waits for the execution of a final verdict. The sheer scale of this gathering is immense, emphasizing the overwhelming power and size of the assembled forces [רד״ק]. The primary approach among commentators is that these are numerous, massive factions of nations destined to meet their downfall in this very spot A unique perspective suggests that the vastness of the crowd actually represents two distinct groups converging: either the living and the dead, or the forces of Edom alongside the forces of Ishmael [אברבנאל].

This monumental event unfolds in a valley whose identity carries deep significance. While some suggest its name stems from the physical landscape, describing a steep, deeply carved terrain [ביאור שטיינזלץ], most understand the location as a powerful metaphor for absolute justice. It signifies a decree that is sharply cut, finalized, and absolute Earlier stages of this divine process involved investigation and a trial, but this specific location represents the end of the line. Here, the doom of the gathered nations is already sealed and finalized, leaving no room for appeal or change [מלבי״ם]. True justice will finally be revealed in this valley, resulting in their complete destruction

With the verdict firmly locked in place, the day of God is imminent. This day marks the climax of judgment and the outbreak of the great war Because the judgment is absolute and unchangeable, the time for divine retribution is rapidly approaching, ensuring that the destruction of these nations will be carried out swiftly and without any further delay
