Joshua 16:8Sefaria

The allocation of land for the tribe of Ephraim reveals a complex and unique boundary, featuring enclaves of cities nestled entirely within the territory of the neighboring tribe of Manasseh. The boundary traces its path starting from Tappuah, a city situated near the Jordan River and south of Michmethath. A distinct geographical arrangement was established at this location. While the surrounding land of Tappuah and the territory to its north belonged to Manasseh, the city of Tappuah itself was granted to Ephraim. This marks the beginning of a chain of separated cities. These specific towns were assigned to Ephraim but were located inside the southern border of Manasseh, a solution required because Ephraim's continuous stretch of land was interrupted in this area [מלבי״ם].

From this point, the border travels westward toward the Kanah Brook. The dividing line was drawn precisely along the southern side of the brook. As a result, the land lying to the north of the water belonged to Manasseh, while the territory to the south remained in the hands of Ephraim This westward boundary line continues its path until it ultimately reaches the Mediterranean Sea [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This detailed geographic route encompasses the complete inheritance of the tribe of Ephraim, exactly as the land was distributed among each individual family within the tribe [
