Faced with a desperate plea for rescue, God responds to the Israelites with a harsh rebuke. He directs the people to cry out to the idols they had willingly embraced. Since the Israelites made a conscious choice to worship these false gods, God makes it clear that it is only fitting for them to seek help from those very same deities rather than from Him [מלבי״ם].
The suggestion that these idols will provide salvation is not offered as actual advice. Instead, God speaks with deep mockery, highlighting the uselessness of the path the people have chosen [מצודת דוד]. God forces the Israelites to face the logical result of their own actions. The deities they chose to serve should be the ones to save them in their time of distress. It is completely inappropriate for the people to abandon God during comfortable times, only to demand His help the moment disaster strikes [מלבי״ם].
