Numbers 6:16Sefaria

The completion of a Nazirite vow reaches its peak at the sanctuary, where the priest takes an active role in drawing the individual into the sacred space. The priest does not merely present the sacrifices on the person's behalf; he actively brings the Nazirite close, alongside the offerings and the basket of unleavened bread [העמק דבר]. This approach takes place at a specific location in the courtyard known as the Gate of Nicanor, which serves as the transition point into the direct presence of God [תורה תמימה]. There is a sharp contrast between this process and the purification of a leper. During a leper's purification, the priest makes the individual stand at the entrance to prevent him from stepping further inside. However, because a Nazirite is fully permitted to enter the Israelite courtyard, the priest actively draws him inward so that the power of holiness can rest upon him with greater intensity [העמק דבר].

Once inside, the priest processes the sacrifices, beginning with the sin offering before moving on to the burnt offering. This specific order reflects a common biblical stylistic pattern: when multiple items are listed previously, the subsequent instructions often begin by detailing the very last item mentioned, which in this case was the sin offering [אבן עזרא, אבי עזר]. Furthermore, the explicit instruction for the priest to process the sin offering seems repetitive, as the command to bring the animal was already clearly established. This repetition teaches a fundamental law regarding the sacrifice. All actions performed with this animal must be done with the explicit intention that it is a sin offering. In the laws of sacred offerings, any detail that is repeated becomes an absolute requirement. Therefore, if the priest fails to direct his focus specifically toward a sin offering, the sacrifice is completely invalid and cannot fulfill the Nazirite's obligation [תורה תמימה].
