Psalms 19:5Sefaria

The heavens and their vast hosts serve as a silent yet powerful witness to the greatness of the Creator, reaching into every corner of the world. They require no spoken language; their very existence and precise movements form the ultimate declaration, culminating in the brilliance of the sun. The primary approach among commentators is to view this heavenly layout through the lens of construction. Like a builder using a plumb line or measuring string, the skies were carefully stretched and perfectly arranged over the entire earth Others view this structure as a series of written letters or guiding marks, making the skies resemble an open book whose profound messages can be read and understood by anyone, anywhere Another perspective links this concept to the precise measurement of time, showing God's steady hand in bringing out the day and night exactly when they are meant to appear [אלשיך].

While this heavenly design covers the entire globe, including its most desolate regions, its message resonates specifically within the inhabited world Celestial bodies lack physical voices, yet their actions, functions, and the wonders of their movements act as a universal speech that fills the earth By observing this silent testimony, human beings across the globe are inspired to become the actual voices that speak and praise the wonders they witness

At the center of this cosmic display is the sun. God established a dwelling place for it, a protective covering and a fixed orbit in the sky from which it never strays This orbit is positioned among the heavenly spheres, with some noting that the sun is placed precisely in the middle of the seven planets, much like a king surrounded by his royal guard on all sides [רד״ק, מאירי].

The sun takes center stage because it is the most prominent and influential celestial body. It is the source of light, heat, and life for humans, animals, and plants. Furthermore, time, the changing seasons, and all earthly movements depend entirely upon it The path of the sun is designed with wondrous divine wisdom. Rather than traveling in a simple straight line, it combines daily and yearly cycles, shifting north and south in a highly complex motion. This precise route ensures that the sun's heat is distributed evenly across the earth. It prevents any region from being consumed by extreme heat or frozen by absolute cold, ultimately allowing the entire world to thrive and sustain life [מלבי״ם, אלשיך].
