תהלים, פרק י״ט, פסוק ז׳

Psalms 19:7Sefaria

The daily journey of the sun across the sky serves as a silent yet powerful witness to the perfect order of the universe. This celestial movement completes the praise of the heavens, setting the stage for a shift toward the spiritual light of the Torah [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Every day, the sun rises in the east [רד״ק, מאירי], appearing on the horizon of every human being [מצודת דוד]. It travels in a fixed orbit [מצודת ציון, אבן עזרא], crossing the sky from one end to the other as it moves from east to west before ultimately returning to its starting point [רש״י, רד״ק, מאירי]. This continuous movement encompasses not only the daily rotation but also the annual cycle of the seasons as the sun shifts between the north and the south [רד״ק].

While a person might find shelter from the sun's light by retreating into dark inner rooms, it is impossible to escape its penetrating heat [רד״ק, מצודת דוד]. This warmth is far more than a simple physical occurrence; it is a vital, life-sustaining force. The role of the sun in the world is much like the role of the heart in the human body. Just as the heart pumps warmth and vitality to every organ, the sun grants life to all living things. There is no creature hidden from its immense benefit and blessing [אבן עזרא, רד״ק, מאירי].

Rather than acting as a force of blind nature, the sun reveals precise Divine guidance. Logically, its heat should be most intense at its starting point and gradually weaken as it travels further away. However, the warmth is distributed evenly and felt across the entire globe. This balance proves that God regulates the sun's power before it even rises, ensuring a stable climate for all parts of the earth [אלשיך]. Furthermore, humanity is carefully protected from the sun's raw intensity. If it had been placed in the lowest layer of the sky, its heat would be impossible to endure. Instead, God positioned it in the second layer of the heavens specifically to shield human beings [רש״י].
