As Asa marches out to confront the enemy, the two armies prepare for a major clash. They take their battle positions in the valley of Zephathah, located just outside the city of Mareshah.
The name of this valley reflects its unique geography, as it is a place defined by clear visibility. Because of how the valley is situated, the entire battlefield is in plain sight of the nearby city. Anyone standing inside Mareshah can easily look out and watch the armies as they face off in the valley below.
