Asa’s victory over the Cushite army transitions into a pursuit that ends in the absolute collapse of the enemy forces. This downfall is not merely the result of combat, but rather a combination of complete physical exhaustion and Divine intervention. As the opposing army retreats, many of the fleeing soldiers simply fall dead while trying to escape [מלבי״ם]. They are left with absolutely no life force, stripped of any ability to survive or hope for rescue [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Drained of all physical strength, the soldiers are unable to continue running, their spirits entirely broken before God and His camp, which is the Israelite army [מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Because of this total physical and spiritual collapse, Asa and the men of Judah are able to carry away a massive amount of property [מצודת ציון]. The nature of the plunder in this situation is highly specific. Since the enemy soldiers fall on their own from sheer exhaustion, the Israelite army does not need to engage in further fighting or killing to capture the camp. They simply gather the vast wealth left behind by its collapsed owners. This perfectly captures the essence of spoils that fall into the hands of the victors automatically, requiring no additional struggle [מלבי״ם].
