The Ark of the Covenant held the physical symbol of the relationship between God and His people. Despite its immense significance, its contents were strictly limited to a single item. There was absolutely nothing else stored inside the Ark other than the two stone Tablets of the Covenant [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

These Tablets represented the formal bond God established with the Israelites. This specific agreement points directly back to a defining moment in history, referring to the exact time when the Tablets were given to the nation shortly after they left Egypt [מצודת דוד].
