The dedication of the Temple was marked by a powerful, physical display of God's presence. As a thick cloud filled the space, it created a darkness so intense that the Priests were forced to halt their duties. They simply could not stand and perform their service due to the heavy darkness brought by the cloud [מצודת דוד].

The glory of God in this moment refers directly to this very cloud [מצודת דוד]. The overwhelming presence acted as a clear, visible sign that God had chosen to rest His presence and reveal Himself directly within the walls of the Temple [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
