Beyond the variations in names, the total count of sons also differs between the records. Parallel accounts mention additional sons, specifically Nogah and a second Eliphelet, who are absent from the primary list. This discrepancy exists because these two sons passed away without leaving any descendants. As a result, they were left out of the main historical narrative. However, the alternative record explicitly sets out to document every single one of David's sons, choosing to include even those who died without establishing their own family lines [רד״ק].
