I Kings 2:12Sefaria

וּשְׁלֹמֹ֕ה יָשַׁ֕ב עַל־כִּסֵּ֖א דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֑יו וַתִּכֹּ֥ן מַלְכֻת֖וֹ מְאֹֽד׃ {ס}

The transition of power from a founding king to his successor is a major turning point that establishes a royal dynasty. The shift from David to Solomon represents far more than a simple passing of the crown; it marks the arrival of political and spiritual stability. Solomon took his place on the throne with full honor and dignity [אברבנאל], choosing to continue the good deeds and righteous path of his father [רלב״ג].

This smooth succession also served as a divine stamp of approval. During David's lifetime, some people questioned the legitimacy of his rule because of his descent from Ruth the Moabite and the events surrounding Bathsheba. However, the rise of Solomon—Bathsheba's own son—and the immense wisdom God granted him proved that this royal line was worthy and desired by God, effectively silencing all doubters [אדרת אליהו]. This success did not appear out of nowhere. It rested heavily on the lifelong, difficult labor of David, who worked tirelessly to build a solid foundation for his son [נחל שורק, חומת אנך].

Building on that groundwork, Solomon's rule achieved a remarkable level of success [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The atmosphere of his reign stood in sharp contrast to his father's time. While David endured constant pursuit, wars, and internal rebellions from figures like Saul, Absalom, and Sheba son of Bichri, Solomon's era was defined by deep quiet, peace, and an absence of harm [מצודת דוד, אברבנאל]. This practical political stability was firmly secured once Solomon removed the remaining threats and obstacles that endangered his rule [רד״ק].

Beyond physical and political peace, Solomon's absolute success contained a deep spiritual dimension. His wisdom and authority were not limited to earthly matters. Instead, his grasp extended into higher realms, granting him an extraordinary level of spiritual understanding [רש״י, אברבנאל, אהבת יהונתן].
