Solomon reorganizes the military structure by promoting Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada. Until this point, Joab served as the supreme commander of the military, while Benaiah only led a special unit within the ranks. As a reward for his proven loyalty and strict obedience, Solomon elevates Benaiah to lead the entire army in Joab's place [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This major military transition is accompanied by an equally significant change in spiritual leadership. Zadok the priest is chosen to replace Abiathar, officially stepping into the role of High Priest for the nation moving forward [מצודת דוד].
