The sheer power of this wondrous creature is so absolute that even the most sensitive areas of its body project unyielding strength. In its presence, normal feelings of fear or vulnerability completely vanish. While the neck is typically the weakest and most exposed part of an animal, for this creature, it is a source of permanent, unchanging power [מצודת ציון, מלבי״ם, רש״י, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Because this immense strength constantly resides there [מצודת דוד], the creature never bows its head in defeat, lack, or sorrow [מלבי״ם].

Just ahead of the neck, the creature's chest area introduces a striking poetic contrast between joy and sorrow [רש״י, רלב״ג, מלבי״ם, אבן עזרא, מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The primary approach among commentators is that worry and pain simply cannot exist before this beast. Its chest is so heavily protected that no injury can penetrate it.
