וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים בְּק֣וֹל מָנ֑וֹחַ וַיָּבֹ֣א מַלְאַךְ֩ הָאֱלֹהִ֨ים ע֜וֹד אֶל־הָאִשָּׁ֗ה וְהִיא֙ יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה וּמָנ֥וֹחַ אִישָׁ֖הּ אֵ֥ין עִמָּֽהּ׃

God's response to human prayer is often deeply woven into the spiritual dynamics of a marriage, all while strictly maintaining the boundaries of modesty. When Manoah prayed for the divine visitor to return, God listened and fulfilled his request. This second visit was not actually necessary, as the angel ultimately provided no new information [מצודת דוד]. Yet, even though the husband initiated the prayer, the angel returned to the wife. God truly desired to reveal Himself to both of them together, but because the woman was more spiritually ready and worthy than her husband, the revelation had to happen through her [אלשיך].

The setting of this reunion was highly intentional. The woman was sitting in an open field rather than a secluded area like a forest. Because the angel appeared as an ordinary man, the open location prevented any suspicion of inappropriate seclusion or lack of modesty. Much like the prophetess Deborah, who held her public court under a palm tree, this situation shows that even a completely righteous woman must take care not to be alone with a male stranger. Therefore, the meeting was deliberately held in plain sight [צאינה וראינה].

At the moment of the angel's arrival, the husband was simply not present with his wife [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Had he been there, the angel would have revealed himself to both of them simultaneously. Because of his absence, the woman had to leave and call him so he could share in the experience. This specific sequence of events served a profound purpose, leading the husband to recognize that his wife was on a higher spiritual level than he was, as his own encounter with the divine was only made possible through her [אלשיך].
