The gathering was an event of massive scale, drawing a truly enormous crowd. Inside the building, the space was completely packed with men and women. Most notably, the lords of the Philistines were all present among the dense crowd inside.

The sheer size of the audience extended well beyond the interior walls. Up on the roof, an additional crowd of roughly three thousand men and women gathered to look down and watch Samson as he was paraded for their entertainment [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
