Maintaining the continuous operation of the Temple requires a reliable system to support the individuals who dedicate their lives to its service. To achieve this, the Israelites and the Levites are instructed to bring their offerings of grain, wine, and oil directly into the Temple chambers. These contributions consist of both the direct gifts given by the Israelites to the priests, as well as the secondary tithes that the Levites set aside from the portions they themselves receive [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Delivering these supplies to the chambers serves a specific logistical purpose. These rooms house the sacred Temple vessels, and the priests sit there to guard them. Because the priests are stationed in these rooms, the offerings must be brought directly to their posts [מצודת דוד].

If the priests were forced to travel throughout the land to collect the food owed to them, they would have to abandon their duties to chase their livelihood. Consequently, the Temple would be left unguarded.
