As the Israelites organized their military forces, the leadership of the tribe of Simeon's army was entrusted to Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The tribe of Simeon carried a distinct reputation among the people. Known historically as fierce warriors with a strong tendency toward anger, they required a profound spiritual balance to temper their natural aggression. The identities of their chosen leader and his father served to provide this exact spiritual counterweight [נחל קדומים].

Shelumiel stood as a constant declaration that God was his ultimate source of peace, offering a calming influence to a tribe otherwise prone to conflict. At the same time, his connection to his father, Zurishaddai, symbolized an absolute reliance on God. Through this lineage, the leader presented himself as a direct descendant of the Divine Rock and Almighty, ensuring that the tribe's fighting strength was always anchored in a deep dependence on Him [נחל קדומים].
