When God chooses to shower the earth with goodness, the entire cycle of the seasons transforms into a display of divine generosity. A year of such blessing and abundance is recognized by its beauty and its fruits, appearing as though it has received a royal crown from God. He beautifies and surrounds the year with every kind of success, crops, and fruits [רד״ק, מצודת דוד, מאירי]. This blessing is not a fleeting moment but a continuous presence that accompanies the entire year [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. A year that God desires to bless with rain becomes distinct and elevated above all other years, much like a crowned queen stands out prominently among her maidens [אבן עזרא].

The pathways through which this blessing arrives are described as indirect, circular routes [מצודת ציון, מלבי״ם]. The primary approach among commentators is that these circular paths refer to the clouds. They move through the cycles of the sky, running along the chosen routes of God to drop blessed rain exactly where they are sent. Others suggest that these paths represent the heavens themselves [רש״י], or the physical places on earth where rainwater naturally gathers and pools together [אבן עזרא]. Taking a more geographical perspective, another view sees these paths as the deserts where shepherds walk in winding circles searching for pasture, far away from the straight roads of human settlements [מלבי״ם]. Broadening the idea further, these cycles can also represent the ongoing flow of events and circumstances that take place in the world [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Whether these cycles are understood as clouds, the heavens, or the unfolding events of life, they all drip and overflow with richness, wealth, and excellent things [רוב הפרשנים].
