תהלים, פרק ס״ה, פסוק ג׳

Psalms 65:3Sefaria

שֹׁמֵ֥עַ תְּפִלָּ֑ה עָ֝דֶ֗יךָ כׇּל־בָּשָׂ֥ר יָבֹֽאוּ׃

At the heart of human experience is the deep need to be heard, and God stands as the exclusive, direct destination for the prayers of all humanity, drawing everyone to Him [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. There is a clear cause and effect at play: precisely because God listens to prayer, all people come to Him to offer their requests and express gratitude [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This infinite capacity to listen stands in sharp contrast to the limits of human leadership. A mortal king can only pay attention to a small number of people at one time. Often, his subjects are forced to submit their requests indirectly, relying on ministers and intermediaries to pass along their messages. God, however, hears the prayers of all people at the exact same time, ensuring that every single person receives a direct, personal, and attentive ear [רד״ק, מלבי״ם].

Regarding exactly where and when all humanity will gather to seek God, there are a few distinct perspectives. One approach suggests that this refers to the Temple, which King Solomon originally envisioned as a universal house of prayer for all nations. In this view, all people are destined to journey to God's chosen place [אבן עזרא]. Another perspective views this on a much grander scale, understanding it as a vision for the ultimate time of redemption, when all of humanity will finally come together to bow before God [רד״ק, מאירי]. A third approach connects this gathering to more immediate, practical events. For example, it describes the masses of people who travel to the Temple to offer thanks and fulfill their promises after God has answered their collective prayers for rain [מלבי״ם].
