וַיְבִיאֵ֖נִי אֶל־הַהֵיכָ֑ל וַיָּ֣מׇד אֶת־הָאֵילִ֗ים שֵׁשׁ־אַמּ֨וֹת רֹ֧חַב מִפּ֛וֹ וְשֵׁשׁ־אַמּֽוֹת־רֹ֥חַב מִפּ֖וֹ רֹ֥חַב הָאֹֽהֶל׃

The journey deeper into the Temple complex continues past the outer hall, drawing closer to the central sanctuary itself [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. At this sacred threshold, the focus shifts to the entrance of the main structure and its massive doorposts [רד"ק, אברבנאל, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Although these pillars were perfectly square, they are conceptually compared to tall trees because they stood out prominently and were highly visible to anyone approaching [מצודת דוד]. When measured, these flanks were found to be six cubits wide on each side. This measurement reflects the deep thickness of the doorposts within the entranceway, which corresponds directly to the thickness of the solid wall separating the outer hall from the inner sanctuary [רש"י, מלבי"ם, מצודת דוד, אברבנאל].

Above and around this entranceway is an element described conceptually as a tent, a term that carries both architectural and spiritual significance. The primary approach among commentators is that this refers to the upper lintel spanning the doorposts. Because this lintel was built in the shape of an arched dome, it physically sheltered the entryway like a canopy or tent [רד"ק, מצודת דוד, אברבנאל, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Another perspective suggests that this describes the width of the hall itself or the overarching entranceway [רש"י]. Looking at the deeper spiritual architecture, the sanctuary entrance was equipped with double doors that formed a distinct physical space between them. This enclosed, intermediate area held a unique, middle level of holiness, serving as a bridge between the sanctity of the outer hall and the profound holiness of the inner sanctuary, and it is this special middle ground that is called a tent [מלבי"ם].
