The future division of the Land of Israel involves a precise geographical redesign that differs significantly from the original tribal territories. The land will be divided into thirteen equal horizontal strips stretching from east to west. Twelve of these strips will be assigned to the tribes of Israel, while the thirteenth strip, located exactly in the center, is uniquely dedicated to both sacred purposes and the nation's leadership.

The leadership role in this era belongs to a central figure, whom commentators agree represents the King of Israel, specifically the Messiah [מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם, אברבנאל]. His personal territory is situated within this central thirteenth strip. At the very heart of this strip lies a defined, square-shaped area set aside for the Temple, the living quarters of the priests and Levites, and the city of Jerusalem. The King's personal estate consists of the remaining land within that central strip, flanking the holy area and the city on both sides.

This royal territory extends outward, directly facing the edges of the sacred enclosure [מצודת ציון, רד״ק]. It stretches from the western boundary of the holy portion all the way to the western border of the Land of Israel, and from the eastern boundary of the holy portion to the far eastern border of the land [רש״י, מלבי״ם]. Ultimately, the total area of this royal estate will equal the exact size of any regular tribal portion [רד״ק, אברבנאל]. Just like the tribal lands, it spans the full width of the country from the sea to the eastern border, with the only distinction being that the King's territory has the sacred portion and the city of Jerusalem embedded directly within its center.
