יחזקאל, פרק מ״ה, פסוק כ״ג

Ezekiel 45:23Sefaria

In the future era, the seven days of Passover will feature a unique set of sacrifices in the Temple, presenting a striking contrast to the familiar laws outlined in the Book of Numbers. These offerings will be provided directly by the leader of the people, funded entirely from his own private wealth [מצודת דוד].

A prominent feature of these offerings is the presentation of seven bulls and seven rams. This quantity diverges significantly from the standard holiday requirement of two bulls and a single ram. The primary approach among commentators is that these future offerings are not meant to replace the regular holiday sacrifices [מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם, אברבנאל]. Instead, they serve as special dedication offerings to inaugurate the altar. Because the holiday will coincide with the dedication of the new Temple, these animals are brought as an exclusive addition. According to this perspective, the full quota of seven bulls and seven rams will be brought anew on every single day of the week-long festival [מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Conversely, [רש״י] offers a different resolution to the apparent contradiction with the original Torah laws. In his view, the number seven does not dictate the daily amount, but rather the total sum for the entire week, equating to exactly one bull and one ram each day. The underlying purpose here is not to mandate a new quantity, but to establish a legal principle: the absence of one type of sacrifice does not invalidate the other. If a bull is unavailable, the rams may still be offered, and vice versa.

On a deeper symbolic level, the recurring number seven carries a message of historical atonement. The offering of seven bulls and seven rams is designed to atone for the ancient sin of Cain. Following the murder of Abel, Cain was cursed to a life of wandering, subjected to the shifting influences of the seven planets. These future sacrifices act as a spiritual repair for that primal flaw [אהבת יהונתן].

Alongside these burnt offerings, a male goat will be brought each day as a sin offering. Unlike the bulls and rams, these goats represent the standard, familiar sin offerings that are traditionally brought during all three pilgrimage festivals [רש״י].
