דברי הימים ב, פרק י״ח, פסוק י״ח

To validate a difficult message and dispel any suspicions of personal bias, a prophet shares a profound glimpse into the heavenly court. By revealing the divine source of the vision, he assures his listeners that his words are absolute truth and not the result of any personal conflict [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The vision unfolds with God seated upon His throne, appearing much like a king presiding in his royal palace [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Surrounding Him is the entire host of heaven, a vast assembly of angels [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. There are different traditions regarding the exact nature of these celestial beings. They may be angels of destruction, or alternatively, they are ministering angels standing in service before Him [רש״י].

The arrangement of these angels standing to the right and left of God is not merely a physical description of their placement. Instead, it represents an active legal trial taking place in the heavens. The angels positioned on the right serve as the defense, arguing for merit, while those on the left act as the prosecution, arguing for guilt [מצודת דוד].
