A sudden commotion erupts from the Temple, signaling the coronation of a new king. The loud noise carries easily to Athaliah, as her home is located quite close to the House of God [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

What reaches her ears is a powerful combination of sounds. She hears the physical roar and heavy footsteps of massive crowds rushing together. Mixed with the sheer noise of their movement are loud voices cheering, praising, and officially crowning the new king [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Drawn by this intense uproar, Athaliah leaves her residence and walks directly toward the crowds gathered at the Temple.
