וַיּוֹצִ֣יאוּ אֶת־בֶּן־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וַיִּתְּנ֤וּ עָלָיו֙ אֶת־הַנֵּ֙זֶר֙ וְאֶת־הָ֣עֵד֔וּת וַיַּמְלִ֖יכוּ אֹת֑וֹ וַיִּמְשָׁחֻ֙הוּ֙ יְהוֹיָדָ֣ע וּבָנָ֔יו וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ יְחִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ {ס}

The coronation of the young king begins with his public appearance and the presentation of the symbols of his new authority. He is first brought out from the location where he had been hidden until this moment [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The ceremony then moves to the presentation of the royal crown. This headpiece carries a deep historical legacy, as it is the original crown that King David captured from the king of Ammon. From that time on, it served as the traditional crown passed down to the kings of Judah [רש״י].

Along with the crown, the young ruler is presented with another significant item, which is understood in two distinct ways. One perspective views this spiritually as a Torah scroll. Because a king is commanded to carry a Torah scroll and read from it throughout his life, the scroll is placed on his arm as an essential part of the coronation [רש״י, מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Alternatively, this item is viewed as a physical adornment, taking the form of magnificent royal garments [רד״ק], jewelry crafted from precious stones [מצודת דוד], or another physical symbol of his government [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

A unique tradition bridges these concepts by suggesting that the crown and the testimony are actually the exact same object. In this view, the royal crown itself serves as a living testimony of the king's legitimacy. It perfectly fits only the head of a rightful heir from the House of David, while remaining unsuited for anyone who tries to claim the throne illegally [רש״י].
