II Chronicles 25:26Sefaria

The reign of King Amaziah is remembered as a tale of two completely different eras, marked by a sharp spiritual and political shift. His early years were defined by faithfulness, as he followed the ways of God. However, his later years were characterized by a steep decline. During this second phase, he abandoned God, grew arrogant, and ultimately brought disaster upon his people [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This tragic division in his life is mirrored in the historical records that document his rule. While the Book of Kings states that his legacy was recorded solely in the royal chronicles of Judah, the Book of Chronicles notes that his actions were also documented in the records of the kings of Israel. This addition reflects the grim reality of his later years. Because Amaziah was eventually defeated and subjugated by the kings of Israel, the events of his final days were absorbed into their national records as well [מלבי״ם].
