Taking the throne in the wake of a political assassination brings immediate challenges. Amaziah’s rise to power was marked by deep instability, as he inherited the crown immediately after his father, Joash, was murdered by conspirators within the royal court.

Although the identities of the assassins were well known, the new king initially refrained from taking action against them. The murderers held strong and influential positions, making any immediate retaliation dangerous for his fragile rule.

A turning point arrived only after Amaziah's reign became firmly established. Once he felt that his political power was secure and his authority unquestioned, he could finally act with confidence. At that moment, he brought the conspirators to justice, executing the court officials who were responsible for his father's death.
