On the final day of Elijah’s time on earth, events unfold with supernatural speed and whispered secrets. As the disciples of the prophets gather around Elisha, they step physically close to him for a specific purpose: to quietly whisper in his ear about the impending departure of his teacher [אלשיך].

The entire journey, from the area of Bethel to the very spot where Elijah ultimately ascends to heaven, takes place in a single day. This rapid travel is a profound miracle. Historically, the distance from Jericho to the other side of the Jordan required two full days of travel for the Israelites. Yet, on this day, the prophets cover the entire distance in merely a few hours [אלשיך].

Given Elijah’s miraculous pace, it is a wonder how Elisha manages to stay by his side throughout the journey. The answer lies in Elisha’s deep devotion to his master. By constantly remaining in Elijah’s presence, Elisha absorbs a unique spiritual strength. This profound connection allows him to match his teacher's incredible speed, while also preparing him spiritually for the exact moment Elijah will be taken from him [אלשיך].
